Our Approach
Human-centered design is an approach to problem-solving that places the needs, wants, and limitations of people at the forefront of the design process. It involves empathizing with people to understand their needs, ideating and prototyping potential solutions, and iterating on those solutions based on feedback from the people interacting with the design.
Our goal was to change how people perceive 'blue-collar' workers and industries and how it can impact the community for powerful change. We chose to honor industries and workers through celebrating
why industry matters to the people in Anderson.

Solution: Event
After thorough research and extensive brainstorming, my team and I constructed an interactive installation that was displayed at a live music event at Magnetic South in downtown Anderson. The installation consisted of one sign and one pegboard. The sign caught the public’s attention and briefly explained the installation. Participants then turned to the pegboard, where they were invited to write down why industry mattered to them on prepared cards and hang them on the pegboard. They were also encouraged to read previous responses
Responses
We received over 25 responses from the public about their thoughts in response to the question 'Why does industry matter?' They demonstrated how important industries really are to the Anderson community.
